I see many people at my schools across the country, and I have noticed that at every school there are some people more prepared to learn than others. Now that doesn’t mean they try harder, it just means they were more prepared. Here are a few things I think are important to help you get the most out of your school.
Horsepower is probably the most important thing when it comes to getting the most out of a school. You need to bring a horse that is willing and knowledgeable about roping. You can’t bring a colt to a roping school and expect to accomplish much. You also want to make sure your horse is in shape. Don’t show up on a fat out of shape horse, you will be out of horsepower halfway thru the first day.
Starting the school with an open mind and a willingness to listen is a must. There will be a lot of information about how the rope works and the techniques to apply it that will take some time to learn, so you need to have patience to give yourself and your new ideas a chance. Remember to have fun. A roping school will make you more competitive faster if you are prepared to learn.
